Robert MacIntyre: Scottish golfer to join PGA Tour if he secures card at DP World Tour finale

Bob MacIntyre chats with new caddie Michael Burrows at the season-ending DP World Tour event in Dubai

Robert MacIntyre will accept a PGA Tour card if he secures dual membership rights in Dubai this week – but insists it will not change him as a person.

The 27-year-old sits seventh in the race for one of 10 cards to play on the US-based circuit next season.

“Getting a PGA Tour card would obviously be massive for my career,” MacIntyre told BBC Sport.

He can make sure of his place with a solid finish in this week’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

Scot MacIntyre added: “My life will change quite dramatically with where I have to live, what I have to do – but Bob MacIntyre won’t change. He’s going to be the same guy and I will still live life the same way.

“It’s not the be-all and end-all though. I’ve got a great life, making good money, I get to travel the world, my family are well.

“I came close when I hit temporary status and I’ve done well in the past couple of years so I knew if I played well it would take care of itself – good golf takes care of every problem.”

MacIntyre plans to swap Oban for Orlando if he secures the card in this week’s £8m Rolex Series event on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Adrian Meronk, Ryan Fox, Victor Perez, Thorbjorn Olesen, Alexander Bjork and Sami Valimaki sit above him in the card list, with Jorge Campillo, Ryo Hisatsune and Rasmus Hojgaard also on course to secure PGA Tour rights in 2024.

But despite being attracted by the possibility of a life in America, MacIntyre has refuted suggestions the DP World Tour is a feeder tour for its US equivalent.

He suggested he would continue to feature regularly on the European-based circuit by saying “it is home for me”.

“I don’t think it is a feeder tour – I get why people say it is, but I think it’s only going to get stronger and stronger,” added MacIntyre.

“There are a couple of things that need to change in the world of golf – whether they happen is outside my control, so I’ll let that go on in the background and play my golf.

“You look at the fields we get around the world; guys still come back and play on the tour and probably enjoy it more.

“There is more of a family feel. It’s where you can go for dinner with the boys and we have fun, a great laugh. That’s the thing about this tour, it’s not all about the golf, it’s about the life and the memories and the friends you make. To me that’s everything.”
