Filip Nowacki has become the first British swimmer to break the one-minute barrier in all four strokes.

The 18-year-old world junior 100m and 200m breaststroke champion set a new personal best of 58.90 seconds in 100m backstroke at the AP Race London International event.

Nowacki, who is also the British senior 200m breaststroke champion, and was second to Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty over 50m and 100m earlier this year – dipped under the 60-second backstroke mark in the heats as he finished 29th.

He has previously swum 54.51 in the 100m freestyle, 57.31 in the 100m butterfly and a personal best of 59.20 when the won the world junior 100m breaststroke title last summer.

Nowacki – who is Jersey’s biggest hope for a first Commonwealth Games medal since 1990 – also holds the European Junior record over 200m breaststroke and is part of the Team GB programme aiming for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
