An off-duty police officer has been arrested over a crash which left a pedestrian with “life-threatening” injuries, police have said.
The 42-year-old man remains in hospital after being hit by three cars while trying to cross Yorkshire Street, Rochdale, at about 23:00 GMT on Friday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
The force confirmed one its serving officers had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Another man was also arrested, with both being bailed pending further inquiries, officers said.
The force said its Professional Standards Directorate was reviewing the incident.
“GMP’s serious collision investigation unit are continuing to ask for witnesses and anyone who may have information regarding the incident,” a spokesperson said.
Police earlier said they were also looking for a third driver who fled the scene, with two of the cars suspected to have been involved being a blue Mercedes and a silver Mini Cooper.
