A police officer was headbutted and left with a “significant facial injury” during the arrest of a man in Londonderry.
Officers were responding to a disturbance at a flat on Abercorn Road at about 22:40 BST.
As the suspect was in a police vehicle having his seatbelt put on, he headbutted an officer and kicked him multiple times. The officer remained on duty but sustained bruising and swelling to his eye and is now receiving welfare support.
A 44-year-old man was arrested and later charged with possession of an offensive weapon, threats to kill and possession of a Class A controlled drug, as well as assault on police.
He is due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates Court on Monday.
