Elsewhere, the Dallas Mavericks lost Kyrie Irving to injury as Luka Doncic scored 32 points in their 125-112 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Irving received treatment on the court for several minutes after injuring his right foot in the second quarter and was later withdrawn after trying to play on.

The Mavericks guard was fouled by Portland centre Duop Reath and team-mate Dwight Powell accidentally stepped on his foot after he fell to the floor.

Slovenian Doncic also had 10 assists and six rebounds for the Mavericks, while Dante Exum scored 23 points to seal a 13th win of the season.

The Chicago Bulls came from 13 points down to seal a fourth consecutive win as Coby White scored 24 points in their 121-112 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, who tied a franchise record set last season with a 16th defeat in a row.

Victor Wembanyama, 19, the number one pick in this year’s draft, provided the only bright point for the Spurs with 21 points and 20 rebounds, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to record 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game.

Fred VanVleet scored 26 points as Houston Rockets claimed a first away win of the season, beating Denver Nuggets 114-106 to inflict their first home defeat.

Philadelphia 76ers ran out 125-114 winners at the Atlanta Hawks as Joel Embiid starred with 38 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Meanwhile, Gordon Hayward top-scored as one of four Charlotte Hornets players to reach the 20-point mark in their 119-116 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Scottie Barnes weighed in with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Raptors but missed a key late throw as they lost for the fifth time in a six games.

The Boston Celtics had Jaylen Brown ejected in the fourth quarter for arguing with an official from the bench, but still claimed a 133-123 victory at home to New York Knicks as Derrick White scored a season-high 30 points.
