Jon Dahl Tomasson has left his position as head coach of Blackburn Rovers by mutual consent, after a run of eight Championship games without a win.
BBC Radio Lancashire understands former Birmingham boss John Eustace has been lined up to succeed the former Denmark international in the post.
Tomasson’s assistant coach Remy Reijnierse has also departed.
Rovers’ 2-1 loss at home to struggling Queens Park Rangers on Saturday left them five points above the drop zone.
The Dane, 47, had been in charge at Ewood Park since June 2022 but said following Saturday’s defeat that the club was in “a very serious situation” when asked whether they were in crisis.
Tomasson did not complete his pre-match media commitments before that game, which was said to be a club decision.
He led Blackburn to a seventh-placed finish last season, missing out on the play-offs on goal difference after another eight-match winless run leading into the final day of the campaign.
On Thursday it was confirmed that Rovers had failed to sign Orlando City striker Duncan McGuire on loan as the relevant paperwork was not submitted in time – with a similar thing having happened when the club tried to sign Lewis O’Brien last year.
Rovers were seventh and two points off the top six on 29 November, but have won just once in the league since.
Since December’s 2-1 win at home to Bristol City – the last time Rovers won in the Championship – the club have lost six league games and drawn twice, with their only victories in that period coming in the FA Cup. They will host Newcastle in a fifth-round tie on 27 February.
Their poor form comes despite having the league’s joint-top scorer, Sammie Szmodics, with the 28-year-old contributing 16 Championship goals so far this term and five more in the FA Cup.
Blackburn host Stoke, who are two places and one point behind them, on Saturday.
Eustace set for return after controversial Blues exit
It is unclear whether 44-year-old former Republic of Ireland assistant manager Eustace will be in place for the game against the Potters.
If not, his first game in charge could come away, with an early reunion with former club Birmingham City on Tuesday.
He has been out of work since he was controversially replaced by Wayne Rooney at the Blues in October.
If the Englishman does take the head coach role at Ewood Park it will be his third job in management, having started out at Kidderminster Harriers in 2016.
