New Zealand batter Chad Bowes broke the record for the fastest double century in men’s List A cricket by smashing 200 off 103 balls in a domestic one-day match.<\/b><\/p>\n
The 31-year-old reached the milestone while playing for Canterbury against Otago Volts in the Ford Trophy at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval.<\/p>\n
The previous record – a double century from 114 balls – was jointly held by Australia’s Travis Head and Narayan Jagadeesan of India.<\/p>\n
Head made a double ton for South Australia against Queensland in 2021 while Jagadeesan equalled the feat for Tamil Nadu against Arunachal Pradesh in November 2022.<\/p>\n
Bowes was out shortly after he broke the record, trapped lbw by Matthew Bacon for 205 off 110 balls in an innings that included seven sixes and 27 fours.<\/p>\n
“It started off really nicely so I just kept going and it was working so I didn’t try to rein it in too much and just kept the foot on the gas,” Bowes said.<\/p>\n
“It might sink in over the next day or two, but it was obviously a great day.”<\/p>\n
He has played six one-day internationals and 11 T20 internationals for New Zealand.<\/p>\n
Born in South Africa he represented the Proteas at Under-19 level before moving to New Zealand in 2015.<\/p>\n
Otago were all out for 103 and lost by 240 runs, which is the biggest margin of defeat in New Zealand domestic white-ball cricket history.<\/p>\n
List A matches comprise one-day internationals, 50-over tour matches, Cricket World Cup Challenge League fixtures and premier domestic one-day games which take place in the 12 full member nations of the International Cricket Council.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
