Great Britain’s Matthew Robertson finished second in the men’s C2 road race at the Road and Para-cycling World Championships in Switzerland on Friday.<\/b><\/p>\n
The 25-year-old crossed the line 45 seconds after Alexandre Leaute of France to claim the silver medal on a 62.7km course in Zurich.<\/p>\n
Robertson also claimed third place in the men’s C2 time trial on Tuesday behind Leaute and winner Ewoud Vromant of Belgium, who finished third in Friday’s road race.<\/p>\n
Later on Friday, GB’s Joseph Blackmore finished fifth in the men’s Under-23 road race, which was won by Niklas Behrens of Germany.<\/p>\n
Blackmore, who won this year’s coveted Tour de l’Avenir – a race famed for being won by future Grand Tour champions – finished 46 seconds behind Behrens, but came over the line at the same time as young star Isaac del Toro of Mexico. <\/p>\n
In the men’s T2 road race, GB’s time-trial world champion Felix Barrow finished seventh.<\/p>\n
The championships have so far been a fruitful one for the British Cycling team, with 17 medals and six coveted winner’s rainbow jerseys – including for Sarah Storey in the women’s C4-C5 individual time trial and Cat Ferguson in the women’s junior road race.<\/p>\n
But the event has been overshadowed by the death of Swiss rider Muriel Furrer from head injuries sustained in a crash during the women’s junior road race on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Organisers confirmed on Friday that Furrer’s family supported the continuation of the event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
