{"id":4853,"date":"2024-09-21T00:18:23","date_gmt":"2024-09-21T00:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/too-many-games-not-good-for-football-african-boss-patrice-motsepe\/"},"modified":"2024-09-21T00:18:23","modified_gmt":"2024-09-21T00:18:23","slug":"too-many-games-not-good-for-football-african-boss-patrice-motsepe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/too-many-games-not-good-for-football-african-boss-patrice-motsepe\/","title":{"rendered":"Too many games &#8216;not good for football&#8217; &#8211; African boss Patrice Motsepe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Last weekend, Motsepe toured facilities in Kenya ahead of confirming on Monday that the country would be one of three co-hosting the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament for African players based in their own domestic leagues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Neighbours Tanzania and Uganda will also stage the finals as the three countries continue their preparations to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/africa\/66934633\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">co-host the Africa Cup of Nations<\/a> in 2027, when the tournament is set to take place in East Africa for the first time in over four decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Despite Kenya not having a stadium currently deemed suitable to stage matches, Motsepe says he has been reassured by President William Ruto that the nation, which lost hosting rights for the 1996 Nations Cup and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/41628086\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">2018 CHAN<\/a> because of poor preparations, will be ready.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cI trust President Ruto, I trust the president of Tanzania, I trust the president of Uganda,\u201d said the 62-year-old. \u201cWhen you look people in the eye, you can see the passion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cI\u2019m going back [to Kenya] in December to make sure that the excellent guarantees that I\u2019ve been given have been implemented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Kenya is refurbishing two new stadiums \u2013 the Moi International Sports Centre (60,000-capacity) and Nyayo Stadium (15,000) \u2013 ahead of the CHAN, while also building the Talanta Sports City Stadium (60,000) for the 2027 Afcon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cA lot of work is already being done,\u201d said Motsepe, who toured Kenya\u2019s stadiums on Sunday. \u201cI saw a lot of excellent renovations and upgrading taking place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After being closed for renovation in 2019, the Namboole Stadium has been hosting games since May in Uganda, which is building another Nations Cup stadium in Hoima, while Tanzania, which is also constructing new arenas, already has the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The countries will host the CHAN between 1-28 February.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/c0r8npj8zewo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last weekend, Motsepe toured facilities in Kenya ahead of confirming on Monday that the country would be one of three co-hosting the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament for African players based in their own domestic leagues.
