French rider Paul Magnier sprinted to victory on the opening stage of the Tour of Britain 2024.<\/b><\/p>\n

The 20-year-old Soudal Quick-Step rider hit the front with 150m to go and held off the challenge of Britain’s Ethan Vernon (Israel – Premier Tech) in second.<\/p>\n

Vernon’s compatriot Bob Donaldson (Trinity Racing) was third, while Ineos Grenadiers’ Tom Pidcock came fourth.<\/p>\n

For Magnier it was a sixth stage win of the year. “I was in perfect position and I’m really happy to take the victory for the team,” he said.<\/p>\n

The stage started and finished in Kelso, taking an 181.9km route which included three climbs.<\/p>\n

Wednesday’s second stage of the six-stage event follows a 152.1km route from Darlington to Redcar, taking in the North York Moors National Park.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
