Eugenio Chacarra extended his lead at the DP World India Championship but Rory McIlroy lost ground before the third round was halted because of darkness.<\/p>\n

Spain’s Chacarra led by one shot at 10 under after two rounds at the weather-hit event at Delhi Golf Club and sits two clear after 11 holes of his third round. <\/p>\n

After successive rounds of 67, the 26-year-old birdied four of his opening seven holes to cement his place at the top as he bids to replace American Patrick Reed at the summit of the season-long Race to Dubai rankings.<\/p>\n

Fellow Spaniard Angel Hidalgo and the Netherlands’ Joost Luisten are his closest challengers at 12 under, with Scotland’s Scott Jamieson a shot further back. <\/p>\n

Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin is four adrift with defending champion Tommy Fleetwood five back after a four-under 68. <\/p>\n

Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre is also well placed at eight under with five holes of his third round remaining. <\/p>\n

However, McIlroy – who sits third in the Race to Dubai behind Reed and Chacarra – fell 10 shots off the lead after an erratic third round. <\/p>\n

Having completed a bogey-free second-round 68 early on Saturday, the six-time major winner birdied his opening hole before dropping four shots in as many holes from the third.<\/p>\n

After a birdie on the seventh, McIlroy made back-to-back bogeys on the ninth and 10th before sensationally holing out from the bunker for an eagle three at the 14th.<\/p>\n

Reed played the first 13 holes of his third round to sit two shots ahead of McIlroy.<\/p>\n

The 2018 Masters champion, who tops the Race to Dubai rankings after early-season victories in Dubai and Qatar, mixed five birdies and a bogey before holing his 150-yard approach shot for a spectacular eagle two at the fourth, having teed off at the 10th.<\/p>\n

The third round will resume at 02:05 BST on Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
