Former West Brom midfielder Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a match in Portugal. <\/b><\/p>\n
Castro fell to the ground during the first half of third-tier Real Sport Clube’s friendly against top-flight side Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon on Saturday. <\/p>\n
The Lisbon Football Association (AFL) said that Castro “passed away this morning during the pre-season friendly”.<\/p>\n
Real Sport Clube said the midfielder was a “beloved member of our sporting family”.<\/p>\n
“Quevin Castro was much more than just a player; he was an integral part of our family, leaving an indelible mark on all those who knew him.”<\/p>\n
Castro joined West Brom in 2021 and made his debut for the club against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.<\/p>\n
His second appearance for the club came against Swansea later that season, before joining Burton Albion on loan. <\/p>\n
West Brom said they were “devastated” by the news of Castro’s death and will pay tribute to the midfielder with a period of applause in the 25th minute of their Championship fixture against Burnley on Sunday, as well as wearing black armbands. <\/p>\n
The former Sporting Clube academy product appeared for several sides in England – including Cambridge City, York City and Notts County – before returning to Portugal last summer. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
