{"id":33077,"date":"2026-08-02T19:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T19:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/lorena-wiebes-claims-back-to-back-tour-de-france-femmes-stage-wins\/"},"modified":"2026-08-02T19:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T19:20:08","slug":"lorena-wiebes-claims-back-to-back-tour-de-france-femmes-stage-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/lorena-wiebes-claims-back-to-back-tour-de-france-femmes-stage-wins\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorena Wiebes claims back-to-back Tour de France Femmes stage wins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Dutch sprinter Lorena Wiebes claimed stage two for back-to-back victories at the Tour de France Femmes.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Last year&#8217;s green jersey winner, Wiebes, who is widely considered the fastest female sprinter in the peloton, burst clear of the pack with 250 metres to go to win by several bike lengths and extend her overall lead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Her victory came after a hilly 147.9km route from Aigle to Geneva in Switzerland, much of it by the lakeside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The charging peloton had chased down Lidl-Trek rider Riejanne Markus, who had broken away on her own, inside the final kilometre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The girls were chasing full gas to bring back Riejanne Markus, so it is even more beautiful to finish it off in the yellow jersey,&#8221; Wiebes said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Every sprint is quite exciting &#8211; one small mistake and it is over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It will be hard to keep it [the yellow jersey] tomorrow, but we will try our best.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 27-year-old Team SD Worx-Protime rider has now claimed seven Tour de France Femmes stage victories, extending her record as the rider with the most stage wins since the race returned to the World Tour calendar in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Italy&#8217;s Elisa Balsamo finished second, while Netherlands veteran Marianne Vos, 39, crossed the line in third.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Great Britain&#8217;s Josie Nelson and Zoe Backstedt finished sixth and seventh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 2026 Tour de France Femmes features 147 riders battling across nine stages &#8211; with the event including a first ascent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/cycling\/articles\/cgmkj4w3g01o\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">of the famous Mont Ventoux climb<\/a> on stage seven.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Stage three on Monday takes in a steep 11km climb just outside Geneva but ends with a flat 15km stretch to the finish line at Poligny.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The climb will not favour sprint specialist Wiebes, but the flat distance might give SD Worx-Protime the opportunity to organise a chase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/cycling\/articles\/czrjp1y13l6o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dutch sprinter Lorena Wiebes claimed stage two for back-to-back victories at the Tour de France Femmes.
