{"id":32552,"date":"2026-07-22T09:23:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T09:23:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/tennis-samuel-bensoussans-match-fixing-ban-extended-to-three-years\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T09:23:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T09:23:27","slug":"tennis-samuel-bensoussans-match-fixing-ban-extended-to-three-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/tennis-samuel-bensoussans-match-fixing-ban-extended-to-three-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennis: Samuel Bensoussan&#8217;s match fixing ban extended to three years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">French tennis player Samuel Bensoussan&#8217;s ban for match fixing has been extended to three years following an unsuccessful appeal, the International Tennis Integrity Agency has confirmed.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bensoussan was suspended for one year and 11 months last June after an independent anti-corruption hearing officer found the 34-year-old had fixed four matches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bensoussan was also linked to a criminal case involving a match-fixing syndicate in Belgium, and was fined $12,000 (\u00a38,880) in addition to the ban.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bensoussan appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overturn his ban, but it was dismissed with all ITIA charges being upheld.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">CAS then agreed that Bensoussan&#8217;s sanction should be increased in line with similar cases. Having been suspended in May 2025, he will now not be eligible to play until May 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bensoussan was punished alongside three others players last year &#8211; Natthasith Kunsuwan, Jaimee Floyd Angele and Christian Lindell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After increasing Bensoussan&#8217;s ban, Cas noted that investigations had &#8220;uncovered a criminal organisation that corrupted at least 181 players worldwide and involved the manipulation of at least 375 tennis matches&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bensoussan reached a career-high ranking of 405 in June 2018, and has not competed professionally since 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Suspended individuals are not allowed to play in, coach at, or attend any events organised or sanctioned by World Tennis, the WTA, the ATP, or Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/articles\/c20jleg7003o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>French tennis player Samuel Bensoussan&#8217;s ban for match fixing has been extended to three years following an unsuccessful appeal, the International Tennis Integrity Agency has confirmed.
