{"id":31364,"date":"2026-06-26T17:13:49","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T17:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/lizzie-deignan-to-take-sporting-director-role-at-gb-cycling\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T17:13:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T17:13:49","slug":"lizzie-deignan-to-take-sporting-director-role-at-gb-cycling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/lizzie-deignan-to-take-sporting-director-role-at-gb-cycling\/","title":{"rendered":"Lizzie Deignan to take sporting director role at GB cycling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Former world champion Lizzie Deignan has returned to Great Britain&#8217;s cycling team in a sporting director role which &#8220;will play a pivotal role in supporting the road squad at major events through to the LA 2028 Olympic Games&#8221;.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 37-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/olympics\/articles\/c5y2yrgr852o\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">retired from cycling<\/a> in July last year after confirming she was pregnant with her third child.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Deignan&#8217;s illustrious career included winning a silver medal for Britain in the women&#8217;s road race at the 2012 Olympics in London and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/cycling\/34371510\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">she became the women&#8217;s road race world champion<\/a> in 2015.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;m excited about the opportunity to work with a strong and talented group of riders,&#8221; said Deignan, who is one of Britain&#8217;s most successful road cyclists with 43 professional wins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I believe we&#8217;re one of the strongest road nations in the world.
