{"id":2774,"date":"2024-08-04T14:53:54","date_gmt":"2024-08-04T14:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/alun-carter-former-wales-flanker-dies-aged-59\/"},"modified":"2024-08-04T14:53:54","modified_gmt":"2024-08-04T14:53:54","slug":"alun-carter-former-wales-flanker-dies-aged-59","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/alun-carter-former-wales-flanker-dies-aged-59\/","title":{"rendered":"Alun Carter: Former Wales flanker dies aged 59"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Former Wales flanker Alun Carter has died at the age of 59.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In a playing career that took in spells at Pontypool and Newport, Carter made his Wales debut against England in 1991 and won the second of his two caps against Scotland that year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Carter became a distinguished sport analyst and spent 12 years as part of the Welsh management, including the 1999 home World Cup and the 2005 Grand Slam success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He worked under national coaches Kevin Bowring, Graham Henry, Steve Hansen, Mike Ruddock, Scott Johnson and Gareth Jenkins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Carter was later reunited with Ruddock at Worcester, where he was to spend five years as team manager, also working with Richard Hill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He also had 18 months back at his beloved Pontypool as a consultant and director of rugby until 2015.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This was before taking on a role at Cardiff Metropolitan University as a lecturer in sport performance analysis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/rugby-union\/articles\/c51y15lqp5eo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Wales flanker Alun Carter has died at the age of 59.
