{"id":17111,"date":"2025-07-15T16:37:34","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T16:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/report-reveals-yawning-gap-between-hundred-hosts-other-counties\/"},"modified":"2025-07-15T16:37:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T16:37:34","slug":"report-reveals-yawning-gap-between-hundred-hosts-other-counties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/sport\/report-reveals-yawning-gap-between-hundred-hosts-other-counties\/","title":{"rendered":"Report reveals &#8216;yawning gap&#8217; between Hundred hosts &#038; other counties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A report into the financial health of county cricket has revealed a yawning gap between those clubs who host a Hundred franchise and those who do not.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leonardcurtis.co.uk\/cricket-finance-report-2025#:~:text=The%20report%20examines%20each%20of,from%20investment%20into%20The%20Hundred.\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Leonard Curtis Cricket Finance Report<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-1f39n02-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> shows Surrey, Lancashire and Warwickshire generated 44% of the total revenue of all 18 first-class counties in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It also found a number of counties are reliant on central funding from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the majority of their income, with 71% of Northamptonshire&#8217;s revenue coming from the ECB, while for Leicestershire it is 67% and Derbyshire 56%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Cricket in England and Wales remains overly reliant on central distributions, TV rights, and international fixtures at a handful of Test grounds,&#8221; said the report&#8217;s co-author, Professor Rob Wilson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;While significant profits have been posted in isolated cases over the past 10 years, they are exceptions to the rule. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Without ECB support and income from The Hundred, it is questionable whether some counties could survive even for a single season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A new Financial Performance Index ranks clubs based on their results on and off the field for the 10 years between 2014 and 2023 with Surrey, who host the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, leading the way, while Leicestershire are bottom of the table.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This year&#8217;s Hundred competition, now in its fifth year, gets under way on 5 August.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/cricket\/articles\/c4gd8gzylvro\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A report into the financial health of county cricket has revealed a yawning gap between those clubs who host a Hundred franchise and those who do not.
