Archive images of Hebridean women are to be shown before films at the Sea Change Festival<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Screenings of historical images of women from the Hebridean island of Tiree are to form part of this year’s Sea Change Festival.<\/p>\n

The festival is Scotland’s only annual celebration of female film-making.<\/p>\n

It is taking place on Tiree from 20-22 September.<\/p>\n

The photographs go back decades and are held in the care of the island’s historical centre, An Iodhlann.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dr John Holliday, a former Tiree GP who know helps run the centre, curated the selection of images.<\/p>\n

They highlight the roles played by women in island life, and the images will be shown before screenings of each film.<\/p>\n

This year’s programme includes Jeanie Finlay\u2019s My Fat Friend, which challenges people’s relationships and attitudes to the word “fat”, and their own bodies. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Closing the festival will be new documentary Kim Carnie Out Loud.<\/p>\n

Oban-born musician Carnie, who performs with the band M\u00e0nran<\/a> and was 2021’s Gaelic Singer of the Year, spent six years in a secret same-sex relationship.<\/p>\n

The film follows her as she travels around the world meeting members of the LGBTQ+ community who have also had to hide their sexuality.<\/p>\n

It won best LGBT film at the Swedish Film Awards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sea Change will also have a screening of Dublin Film Festival’s best documentary winner Notes From Sheepland, which follows Irish artist and sheep farmer Orla Barry as she prepares for a livestock competition in Wexford.<\/p>\n

The festival was first held in 2016 and is run by Screen Argyll.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
