American actress Gena Rowlands, who is known for roles including in The Notebook and Another Woman, has died at the age of 94.<\/p>\n
Rowlands, who was nominated for an Oscar for 1974’s A Woman Under the Influence and 1980’s Gloria, died at her home in Indian Wells, California.<\/p>\n
No cause of death was given, but she had been suffering from Alzheimer’s, according to reports. <\/p>\n
She quit acting in 2015 after winning four Emmys, two Golden Globes, and earning two Oscar nominations, according to Deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Both A Woman Under the Influence and Gloria were collaborations with her former husband John Cassavetes. <\/p>\n Her Emmys were for The Betty Ford Story, Face of a Stranger, Hysterical Blindness, and The Incredible Mrs Ritchie.<\/p>\n Born in Wisconsin, she moved to New York and stared in the Broadway debut of The Seven Year Itch.<\/p>\n In 1956 she starred in Broadway play Middle of the Night.<\/p>\n In 2015, she was given an honorary Academy Award for her long acting career.<\/p>\n \u201cWorking this long? I didn\u2019t even think I\u2019d be living this long,\u201d she recently told Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n She also starred in films Faces, Opening Night, Unhook the Stars, Yellow and Broken English, Hope Floats, Tempest, The Brink’s Job, Tony Rome and The Neon Bible.<\/p>\n The Notebook was directed in 2004 by her son Nick Cassavetes, who recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly<\/a> about how his mother played a character suffering from dementia. <\/p>\n “We spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer\u2019s and wanting to be authentic with it, and now, for the last five years, she\u2019s had Alzheimer\u2019s,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n “She\u2019s in full dementia. And it\u2019s so crazy \u2014 we lived it, she acted it, and now it\u2019s on us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
