Evans, who is originally from Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, said: “When I think about what I need to do, you know, 400 miles, four nations over the space of four or five days, I just don’t feel like it’s a thing I’m able to do.”

Cox recommended he take it a day at a time, but warned the weather had “taken a slight turn”.

Evans said: “It’s been pouring down here and also quite cold to be honest, quite chilly. So that’s the thing that I know it was the same with your challenge, Sara, right?

After riding through Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales, Evans’ journey will end in central Cardiff on 13 November.

Cox said: “Just keep pedalling, that’s all you’ve got to do, and you will do it.”
