A student has been arrested after a principal and teacher were shot at a school in France on Monday morning.<\/b><\/p>\n
The ninth-grade student was detained “immediately” after the incident at Lakanal middle school, Aubagne Mayor Jean-Pierre Squillari said. French media reported the suspect was 14.<\/p>\n
No children were harmed and the teachers have been treated for injuries which are not life-threatening, Squillari added.<\/b><\/p>\n
Broadcaster BFMTV and Le Parisien reported that the incident was not thought to be related to ongoing protests over school conditions, citing sources familiar with the investigation.<\/p>\n
Education Minister Edouard Geffray wrote on social media: “Two staff members from the National Education system, a principal and a teacher, were victims this morning of gunshot wounds at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne. <\/p>\n
“A student is said to be the perpetrator.”<\/p>\n
He is due to visit the scene near Marseille in southern France with Interior Minister Laurent Nu\u00f1ez on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The pupil is said to have entered the school with a gun before several shots were heard, and was subsequently restrained by a member of staff.<\/p>\n
The headteacher, 53, was reportedly shot in the leg, while the 37-year-old teacher’s thigh was hit.<\/p>\n
“All students were immediately confined and made safe within seconds,” Mayor Squillari said in an update on social media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
