{"id":59618,"date":"2026-08-28T18:01:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T18:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/scotlands-universities-face-bleak-future-as-200m-funding-gap-revealed\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T18:01:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T18:01:22","slug":"scotlands-universities-face-bleak-future-as-200m-funding-gap-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/scotlands-universities-face-bleak-future-as-200m-funding-gap-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland&#8217;s universities face &#8216;bleak&#8217; future as \u00a3200m funding gap revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Funding Gap Analysis report was commissioned after a series of financial crises hit institutions across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Dundee University received a \u00a362m bailout from the Scottish government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cjel3ng04q4o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">after financial mismanagement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is one of many institutions to suffer financially after significant drops in international student income.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Thousands of jobs have been lost throughout the entire sector due to funding shortages. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Cuts of \u00a3140m at Edinburgh University have led to a current dispute with staffing unions over compulsory job losses, 190 jobs were lost at RGU in Aberdeen last winter due to savings and next week staff who are members of Unison will walk out at Glasgow Caledonian University due to 100 jobs at risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Many other universities have proposed cuts and job losses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Prof James Miller, from Universities Scotland, said: &#8220;Scotland&#8217;s universities have faced significant financial pressures for some time, and this report provides an important, evidence-based, assessment of their scale.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said the report needed to be the start of a conversation about how to ensure Scotland&#8217;s universities remained sustainable, successful and able to deliver for future generations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c0lr8rp01n5o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Funding Gap Analysis report was commissioned after a series of financial crises hit institutions across the country.
