Sixteen people have been injured as a coach carrying German high-school students collided with a delivery van in the eastern Netherlands, Dutch police have said.<\/b><\/p>\n
Eight people including the van driver were seriously hurt, while the remainder suffered minor injuries, the police department of the Gelderland region said. All were taken to hospital, it added.<\/p>\n
The cause of the accident, near Wezep, to the east of Amsterdam, is under investigation. It is unclear how many of the wounded were students.<\/p>\n
More than 50 students and four teachers were on the coach travelling to Paris from a school in the northern German town of Sch\u00f6nberg, according to a notice on its website.<\/p>\n
The students belonged to two grade 12 classes – typically for those aged 17 to 18 years old – it added.<\/p>\n
The school said there had been no reports of life-threatening injuries and that all of those involved were receiving comprehensive medical care.<\/p>\n
Police said they received a report of a serious accident on the A28 near Wezep at around time 04:20 local time (02:20 GMT) on Monday.<\/p>\n
The coach collided with a delivery van, crashed through the guardrail, and overturned onto its side, according to Dutch and German media, citing local police.<\/p>\n
The A28 highway remains closed in both directions following the accident.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
