Fire crews have made “really significant progress” in tackling a large-scale wildfire which has been burning in the Cairngorms for four days.<\/b><\/p>\n
More than 100 firefighters have been involved in the operation to control and extinguish the blaze, which started near Ryvoan Bothy, south of Nethy Bridge, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Local residents had raised concerns over the spread of the fire after the Scottish government described it as “contained”.<\/p>\n
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said crews had worked to “get on top” of the blaze thanks to favourable weather conditions on Saturday, but added it would likely continue for “days to come”.<\/p>\n
The public has been asked to avoid Glenmore, Abernethy, Loch Morlich and the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
Homes and businesses, including campsites and a ski resort in the Glenmore Forest Park area, have been evacuated as a safety precaution.<\/p>\n
On Saturday evening, Police Scotland said those residents and other members of the public who have been displaced by the fire and want to return to the exclusion zone should report to the reception of the Macdonald Aviemore Resort between 10:00 and 12:00 on Sunday.<\/p>\n
They will then be contacted when it is safe to return.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
