{"id":56189,"date":"2026-07-08T00:46:42","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T00:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/reform-asks-nca-to-investigate-leaks-of-private-financial-information\/"},"modified":"2026-07-08T00:46:42","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T00:46:42","slug":"reform-asks-nca-to-investigate-leaks-of-private-financial-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/reform-asks-nca-to-investigate-leaks-of-private-financial-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Reform asks NCA to investigate leaks of private financial information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Reform UK Deputy leader Richard Tice has written to the boss of the National Crime Agency (NCA) asking if he will investigate whether the body is responsible for leaking his private financial information to the media.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Payments made to his organisations were flagged to the NCA as part of its Suspicious Activity Reports programme, something Tice says he only became aware of when he was contacted by the Guardian newspaper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Reform UK believe the paper&#8217;s information is likely to have come from the NCA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A spokesperson for the agency said &#8220;The NCA does not confirm or deny the receipt of suspicious activity reports (SARs), nor comment on how any SAR is used. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;SARs are confidential and breaching that confidentiality risks committing a tipping off offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2026\/07\/07\/reform-accuses-crime-agency-of-leaking-mps-bank-statements\/\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">As first reported by the Telegraph,<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> Tice&#8217;s company Tisun Investment received a loan of \u00a380,000 from George Cottrell, a close ally of Reform leader Nigel Farage, in late 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A think tank owned by Tice, called Britain Means Business, also received a \u00a31m donation from Cotrell&#8217;s mother Fiona in June 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/search.electoralcommission.org.uk\/?currentPage=1&amp;rows=10&amp;query=britain%20means%20business&amp;sort=AcceptedDate&amp;order=desc&amp;tab=1&amp;et=pp&amp;et=ppm&amp;et=tp&amp;et=perpar&amp;et=rd&amp;isIrishSourceYes=true&amp;isIrishSourceNo=true&amp;prePoll=false&amp;postPoll=true&amp;register=gb&amp;register=ni&amp;register=none&amp;optCols=RegisterName&amp;optCols=CampaigningName&amp;optCols=AccountingUnitsAsCentralParty&amp;optCols=IsSponsorship&amp;optCols=IsIrishSource&amp;optCols=RegulatedDoneeType&amp;optCols=CompanyRegistrationNumber&amp;optCols=Postcode&amp;optCols=NatureOfDonation&amp;optCols=PurposeOfVisit&amp;optCols=DonationAction&amp;optCols=ReportedDate&amp;optCols=IsReportedPrePoll&amp;optCols=ReportingPeriodName&amp;optCols=IsBequest&amp;optCols=IsAggregation\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Data from the Electoral Commission shows<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> that Britain Means Business donated \u00a3500,000 to Reform UK in the same month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The NCA was notified about the payments as part of the SARs programme, which alerts law enforcement to potential instances of money laundering. In 2024\/25, 866,616 cases were flagged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It&#8217;s understood the NCA often makes information in SARs reports available to police forces and other organisations involved in their investigations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Cottrell is at the centre of a political row after the Sunday Times reported he had supplied Farage with support including security and social media staff in the year before he became an MP. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Under parliamentary rules, newly elected MPs have to declare gifts or benefits, received in the 12 months before their election that relate to their &#8220;parliamentary or political activities&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, there is an exemption for gift and benefits that are &#8220;purely personal&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Reform has argued that Farage did not breach the guidelines by not declaring the support from Cottrell because the support was provided in a &#8220;purely personal capacity&#8221;. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c621q06w91ro?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reform UK Deputy leader Richard Tice has written to the boss of the National Crime Agency (NCA) asking if he will investigate whether the body is responsible for leaking his private financial information to the media.
