{"id":55472,"date":"2026-06-27T17:09:59","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T17:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/grammy-awards-asian-pop-and-latin-song-categories-added\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T17:09:59","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T17:09:59","slug":"grammy-awards-asian-pop-and-latin-song-categories-added","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/grammy-awards-asian-pop-and-latin-song-categories-added\/","title":{"rendered":"Grammy Awards: Asian Pop and Latin song categories added"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">The Grammy Awards is adding five new categories, including best Asian pop music performance and best Latin song.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It comes after Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny became the first artist to win the coveted album of the year prize for a Spanish-language record, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c931vdngdd2o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">KPop Demon Hunters anthem Golden also made history at the US ceremony earlier this year<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The annual award show &#8211; regarded as music&#8217;s biggest night &#8211; hands out gongs to artists in a huge range of genres.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Grammys chief executive Harvey Mason Jr said expanding the number of categories made the event &#8220;more inclusive&#8221; and enabled the awards to &#8220;represent more music creators, artists, writers and producers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Recording Academy, which organises the Grammy Awards, added a number of Korean and Latino artists to its voting panel last year &#8211; a move widely seen as laying the ground for an expansion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mason Jr said the changes &#8220;were all inspired by our music community sharing with us that they felt they needed to have more opportunities to celebrate different and new genres of music&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Tracks hoping to be nominated for the new best Latin song award will need to be &#8220;predominantly in the Spanish language&#8221;, while music across Asian pop genres, including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, is eligible. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bad Bunny, who was the world&#8217;s most-played artist in 2025 according to Spotify, also picked up the best m\u00fasica urbana album for Deb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos (I Should Have Taken More Photos) and best global music performance at the Grammys in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">While Golden, the inescapable hit from the movie KPop Demon Hunters, performed by the fictional band Huntr\/x, was the first ever K-Pop song to win a Grammy for best song for visual media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Its success reflected a growing recognition of Korean pop&#8217;s cultural and commercial force.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/czj8n9p0v0po?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Grammy Awards is adding five new categories, including best Asian pop music performance and best Latin song.
