There will be more musical instruments than cars in parts of Belfast city centre during the first week of August.<\/b><\/p>\n

Dozens of streets will be closed to traffic during the world’s largest festival of Irish music and dance.<\/p>\n

Fleadh Cheoil na h\u00c9ireann – the all-Ireland Fleadh – is being held in Belfast for the first time from 2-9 August.<\/p>\n

A wide area from the front of City Hall, past Castlecourt Shopping Centre to the Ulster University campus on York Street will become a car-free zone.<\/p>\n

The road closures are for safety reasons, with Belfast City Council saying it expects about 800,000 visitors to the city.<\/p>\n

Lord Mayor R\u00f3is-M\u00e1ire Donnelly said: “We want everyone to enjoy the event, with as little disruption as possible.<\/p>\n

“Our message is simple – don’t drive into the city centre. Walk, cycle or use public transport instead and make sure to leave extra time for your journey, whatever your plans.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
