The former University of Michigan football coach, who was fired and arrested earlier this week, faces three criminal charges, including home invasion and stalking in a domestic relationship, according to court documents.<\/p>\n
The university terminated Sherrone Moore, alleging they had “credible evidence” that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.<\/p>\n
Authorities said that on the same day he was dismissed, Mr Moore was detained by police in a nearby suburb in connection with an alleged assault.<\/p>\n
The 39-year-old was formally charged on Friday afternoon, two days after his abrupt firing and arrest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The magistrate on Friday granted Mr Moore $25,000 bail, ordered him to wear a GPS monitor and stay away from his former girlfriend, NBC News reported.<\/p>\n
Mr Moore or his lawyer could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, police in Pittsfield Township, about 15 minutes from the university’s campus in Ann Arbor, said they responded at 16:10 local time (21:10 GMT) to investigate reports of an assault.<\/p>\n
Authorities from neighbouring city Saline “assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore”, a statement from Saline police said, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n
Details of the alleged inappropriate relationship and assault were not released.<\/p>\n
In a statement provided to the BBC, the school’s athletic director said that Mr Moore’s alleged inappropriate relationship “constitutes a clear violation of university policy”, and the school “maintains zero tolerance for such behavior”.<\/p>\n
In his second year as head coach, he was due to lead the Michigan Wolverines in a storied rivalry against the University of Texas on 31 December in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.<\/p>\n
He will be replaced by Biff Poggi, the team’s associate head coach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
