People have been advised to avoid the Broadway area<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Stones, bottles and paint have been thrown at police in the Glenmachan Street area of south Belfast.<\/p>\n

It is the second consecutive night<\/a> of disorder in the area.<\/p>\n

On Monday night, cars were damaged and petrol bombs were thrown at police.<\/p>\n

Land Rovers and officers wearing riot gear are at the scene.<\/p>\n

Police have advised the public to avoid the area.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said disruption was expected to continue for a number of hours.<\/p>\n

Police have closed some roads in south Belfast including the Westlink onto Broadway Roundabout heading out of the city.<\/p>\n

Parts of Tates Avenue, Boucher Road, Donegall Road and Donegall Avenue heading to Glenmachan Street are also shut.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Monday night, Ch Supt Lindsay said police would continue to patrol the area on Tuesday night to prevent anti-social or disorderly behaviour.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would urge the young people who have been involved and their parents or guardians to seriously consider the impact of their actions on the local community, but also on their own futures,” he said.<\/p>\n

“These actions have serious consequences. My message is simple, walk away and don\u2019t get involved in any trouble”.<\/p>\n

No injuries to police officers or members of the public were reported.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

DUP assembly member Edwin Poots said there had been trouble in the area since last October.<\/p>\n

“Someone is going to get seriously injured,” he told BBC Radio Ulster’s Good Morning Ulster programme on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s a busy road, people are fighting – hand to hand fighting – they were throwing missiles.<\/p>\n

“A member of the public could get hurt who\u2019s in a vehicle, a vehicle could hit one of these young people.”<\/p>\n

West Belfast MP Paul Maskey said: \u201cScenes of disorder and anti-social behaviour in the Broadway area over recent days are deeply concerning, and totally unacceptable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would appeal for calm in the area and urge young people not to get caught up in this type of activity.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
