A black Range Rover is in the background.\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 bGQwLJ\"\/><span class=\"sc-5340b511-2 lha-dta\">Reuters<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><figcaption class=\"sc-536eff7b-0 jFVvLh\">People at Portstewart run for cover during Storm Floris in August<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 jdlrvG\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">The Met Office is warning of disruption to parts of Northern Ireland on Friday as Storm Amy hits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">An amber warning for wind is in place from 15:00 to 20:00 BST on Friday for the western half of Northern Ireland, with a yellow warning in place for the rest of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">&#8220;A period of damaging south to south-westerly winds are likely during the late afternoon and evening hours on Friday, with gusts of 60-70 mph inland and up to 80 mph along some more exposed coasts,&#8221; the Met Office says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Earlier, the Met Office issued a heavy rain warning for Northern Ireland, which is in force until 22:00 BST on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"sc-f98b1ad2-0 fsBZby\">What can I expect?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 jdlrvG\">\n<ul class=\"sc-6f869981-0 bYhyhr\">\n<li class=\"sc-734a601e-0 NnDUj\">The Met Office says there is &#8220;a good chance&#8221; for power cuts, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"sc-6f869981-0 bYhyhr\">\n<li class=\"sc-734a601e-0 NnDUj\">Longer journey times and cancellations are likely, with road, rail, air and ferry services likely to be affected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"sc-6f869981-0 bYhyhr\">\n<li class=\"sc-734a601e-0 NnDUj\">Flying debris is likely and could lead to injuries or danger to life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 jdlrvG\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Storm Amy will impact the whole island of Ireland on Friday, with warnings issued for all counties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Met \u00c9ireann has issued a red warning &#8211; the highest level &#8211; for coastal waters between Fairhead (Antrim) and Loop Head (Clare).<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Level orange &#8211; the second highest level &#8211; wind warnings have been issued for counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"sc-f98b1ad2-0 fsBZby\">&#8216;Significant risk to safety&#8217;<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 jdlrvG\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">On Thursday, rainfall accumulations of 20-30mm were expected widely with over 40mm of rain over higher ground possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">This could lead to localised flooding and travel disruption.
