Dickie is also wearing clear safety glasses.\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/><span class=\"sc-d1200759-2 gwFzuU\">Getty Images<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><figcaption class=\"sc-536eff7b-0 FPsqq\">Martin Dickie (left) and James Watt pictured packing BrewDog hand sanitizer during the Covid pandemic in April 2020<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 dEGcKf\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The company is known for its craft beers and IPAs and has breweries and pubs across the globe, including 71 in the the UK, of which 17 are in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">It also has bars in Dubai, the US and Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">In 2021 former workers used an open letter to highlight what they said was a &#8220;culture of fear&#8221; within the business and &#8220;toxic attitudes&#8221; to junior staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The following year several ex-Brewdog staff accused founder and former CEO Watt of <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-59957485\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\">inappropriate behaviour<\/a> in a BBC Disclosure investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Lawyers for Mr Watt said the allegations were false &#8211; but <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-68321350\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\">Ofcom rejected complaints<\/a> that Brewdog and Watt were unfairly treated by the programme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">In January last year the firm also faced a backlash after revealing it would <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-67932569\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\">no longer hire new staff on the real living wage<\/a>, instead paying the lower legal minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Watt <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cqqn1r4plqxo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\">stood down as CEO last year<\/a> and moved to the newly-created position of &#8220;captain and co-founder&#8221; but retained his shares in the company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Martin Dickie is also retaining his shares in the company.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 dEGcKf\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Last month, it emerged his start-up, Waterside Pharmaceuticals, is about to harvest its first full crop at its facility in Aberdeenshire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The company last year secured a Controlled Drugs Licence from the Home Office to cultivate cannabis starter material for medicine production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Up to 60,000 patients a month in the UK are currently estimated to be prescribed medical cannabis, following <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/health-47241787\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\">legislative changes in 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Dickie told Aberdeen &amp; Grampian Chamber of Commerce his aim was to become the UK market leader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">He added the company was &#8220;on a mission to provide safe, efficacious and cost-effective medicine that can help thousands of people&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cg50p64rev3o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Andy Taylor\/ True North Martin Dickie recently launched his own medicinal cannabis business Brewdog co-founder Martin Dickie has left the Scottish craft beer giant, saying that he took the decision for personal reasons.
