A man and four teenagers have been charged after police were hit by eggs and stones when a mob gathered on a street in Levenmouth in Fife.<\/p>\n
Police were called to Pirnie Street in Methilhill on Sunday after a crowd of up to 100 people targeted a house at about 16:40.<\/p>\n
Video posted on social media showed crowds chanting and beeping car horns while police stood guard outside the property.<\/p>\n
A 23-year-old man, 16-year-old girl and three boys aged 14, 15 and 17 have all been reported to the procurator fiscal over the incident.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Police said they were aware of another gathering planned for Friday and urged people not to engage in anti-social behaviour or disorder.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Three men, aged 22, 38 and 47, a 36-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl were previously charged in connection with Sunday’s incidents.<\/p>\n
Ch Insp Craig Fraser said inquiries were ongoing and warned that anyone taking part in disorder would be identified and charged.<\/p>\n
He said: “The violence officers experienced while carrying out their duties was unacceptable and we would encourage people not to engage in further disorder.<\/p>\n
“We are particularly concerned with the number of children who have been present.<\/p>\n
“We understand there are strong feelings in the local area but that is no excuse for violence or disorder.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
