Ruth Jones won a Bafta on Sunday for her portrayal in the finale of Gavin and Stacey <\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Gavin and Stacey star and co-creator Ruth Jones has said the show is “definitely over” but also hinted she and James Corden could work together again in the future.<\/p>\n

Jones won best female performance in a comedy for her role as Nessa in the show’s finale at Sunday’s TV Bafta awards. <\/p>\n

In her acceptance speech, Jones said it was “immense” to win the award and thanked her “dear, talented friend” Corden. <\/p>\n

Mr Loverman, Mr Bates vs the Post Office and Baby Reindeer<\/a> were among the other winners at the awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Jones and Corden created and wrote Gavin and Stacey together, playing Nessa and Smithy, with the first series airing in 2007. <\/p>\n

Jones said her and Corden had a “lovely friendship” and hoped their writing relationship continued. <\/p>\n

“I often say he’s like my annoying, younger brother and I’m like your very bossy older sister, but it just seems to work,” she explained.<\/p>\n

“We have such a good laugh together and we just love being in a room and writing together and I hope that, that’s going to continue because Gavin and Stacey is now finished.<\/p>\n

“I can’t really say anything at the moment, but yeah, I’m sure we will come up with something in the future.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The series officially ended with a grand finale Christmas Day episode last year and became one of the most watched scripted TV shows of the century.<\/p>\n

According to official Barb ratings figures, after seven days of catch-up viewing the finale had been seen by 19.11 million people<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking as Nessa on the Today programme<\/a> on Monday, Jones told listeners there would be no more Gavin and Stacey episodes.<\/p>\n

“We called it the finale, though, and I’m not being funny but if you call something the finale, then that’s the end isn’t it.<\/p>\n

“You don’t want to see Nessa and Smithy putting the bins out, you don’t want to see that domestic bliss.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Other members of the cast were also at the Bafta awards<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Jones said the whole point of the two’s relationship was the anticipation of “will they wont they” and the “fractiousness between them”.<\/p>\n

“It’s definitely over,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We are very lucky to have had a 17-year run with it.<\/p>\n

“And it is now time to shut the door and let, let those families get on with their lives in private.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
