{"id":28721,"date":"2025-05-11T09:23:46","date_gmt":"2025-05-11T09:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/second-teenager-dies-after-swimming-incident\/"},"modified":"2025-05-11T09:23:46","modified_gmt":"2025-05-11T09:23:46","slug":"second-teenager-dies-after-swimming-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.godj.com\/news\/second-teenager-dies-after-swimming-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"Second teenager dies after swimming incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A second teenager has died after getting into difficulty in the water near Buncrana in County Donegal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The boy was rescued after a search operation and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital, where he died in the early hours of Sunday, garda\u00ed (Irish police) have confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">On Saturday evening the <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cx2xlp2l4r7o\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\">body of an 18-year-old male was recovered from the water.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A third teenage boy was also rescued from the water and taken to hospital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Police said the local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Garda\u00ed investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Irish Coast Guard told BBC News NI that an alert was raised shortly before 16:00 local time by a member of the public after reports there were a number of people in difficulty in the water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The multi-agency operation was led by Malin Head Coast Guard with assistance from police and the ambulance service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">An Irish Coast Guard helicopter was also involved in the search along with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">In a statement, the Irish Coast Guard thanked all the search and rescue units and members of the public who had assisted in the search.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/ckg7nx49zldo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A second teenager has died after getting into difficulty in the water near Buncrana in County Donegal.
