Newport County caretaker boss Dafydd Williams is not ruling himself out of the running for the job full-time, saying he wants to stay at the club “in whatever capacity”.<\/b><\/p>\n
Williams was placed in temporary charge for the final two games of the season following the departure of Nelson Jardim.<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old will lead Newport in their final fixture of the 2024-25 League Two campaign against Tranmere Rovers at Rodney Parade on Saturday, 3 May (15:00 BST).<\/p>\n
Williams says it has been an “honour” to manage the side, and is ready to step into the role on a permanent basis if he is asked.<\/p>\n
“Well, I 100% trust in my ability and my capabilities as a coach and a head coach,” said Williams when asked if he felt he could do the top job.<\/p>\n
“Equally, I want the right person to manage this football club. The club deserves that, the fans deserve that.<\/p>\n
“Whatever capacity it is, I would love to stay. I’ve had a really good two years here.”<\/p>\n
Williams has been on the coaching staff at Newport since former boss Graham Coughlan brought him in from Bristol Rovers.<\/p>\n
He says he has not spoken to chairman Huw Jenkins about next season but feels the club need to appoint a new boss as soon as possible. <\/p>\n
“I think it goes without saying that the earlier, the better,” he said. “It gives that person more time. <\/p>\n
“I have no doubt the chairman and other people behind the scenes are working hard to find the right person.”<\/p>\n
County, 21st in League Two, hope to end a disappointing season on a high by securing their first win in nine games, with Williams urging his team to get the fans’ “juices flowing” ahead of next season. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
