Companies would then bid to deliver the service for a fixed fee. with a black and white image of a bus above the text\" class=\"sc-a34861b-0 efFcac\"\/><span class=\"sc-a34861b-2 hesJxn\">Getty Images<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><figcaption class=\"sc-8353772e-0 iUqqeb\">Ministers have promised a simpler, joined-up bus network in Wales<!-- --><\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Welsh Conservative shadow transport secretary Peter Fox said franchising bus services across Wales &#8220;comes with risks if not executed properly, stifling competition and becoming yet another taxpayer-funded money pit&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Plaid Cymru supports the plan, but said it would scrutinise the legislation to make sure it delivers a better and cheaper service.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Plaid transport spokesperson, Peredur Owen Griffiths, said: &#8220;Bus franchising is a step that is integral to the future of sustainable, affordable and reliable bus services for the future, which makes the Labour government&#8217;s delay in its implementation frustrating. &#8220;<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">The government has proposed splitting Wales into regions, each introducing their own franchises over the next five years.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Franchising would start in 2027 in south-west Wales where First Cymru, one of the biggest bus companies, currently operates. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Its commercial director Rob Pymm said First would &#8220;fully embrace&#8221; she said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">&#8220;When I come from Bridgend in the evening, the last bus I get is at six, but I feel it should be extended to eight because there are a lot of people who travel after that.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"sc-518485e5-0 DkKTF\">&#8216;You can&#8217;t blame the drivers&#8217;<!-- --><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">Denver Gough, 67, of Trebanos, said the service was &#8220;pretty good&#8221; but &#8220;sometimes going back they&#8217;re not so reliable&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">He said putting the public sector in charge of the bus system made sense.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fezwLZ\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t think buses got any better from when they were de-nationalised to be honest with you,&#8221;
