BBC News NI Dublin reporter<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Two men have been arrested in the Republic of Ireland during a two-day operation by garda\u00ed (Irish police) into dissident republican activity.<\/p>\n The men, both in their 40s, were arrested in County Cork on Monday.<\/p>\n One man was detained when a vehicle was stopped, and the second was stopped and arrested during follow-up searches in an area of forest and adjoining lands.<\/p>\n Both men are currently being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Monday’s operation was assisted by the garda regional armed support unit.<\/p>\n Eight homes across Cork city were searched during follow-up searches on Tuesday, and police said they seized a number of items of evidential value.<\/p>\n That operation was assisted by a special detective unit, the garda dog unit, and the garda air support unit.<\/p>\n Police say investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n![\"Getty](\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/480\/cpsprodpb\/62b2\/live\/b56c8c20-feaa-11ef-a8b1-950887ddc6e5.jpg.webp\")
