Garda\u00ed (Irish police) are investigating after a boy was stabbed by another child at a primary school in north Dublin.<\/p>\n

The incident, which happened on Tuesday, involved a knife, BBC News NI understands.<\/p>\n

Both children involved attend the school, garda\u00ed said.<\/p>\n

The child is understood to be 11 years old, Irish broadcaster RT\u00c9 has reported.<\/p>\n

He was taken to hospital for treatment and has been described as having serious, non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Garda\u00ed said they are liaising with school management and staff with a view to identifying the circumstances around the incident.<\/p>\n

It is not being treated as a criminal investigation due to the ages of the children involved. <\/p>\n

In the Republic of Ireland, the minimum age of responsibility in most cases is 12.<\/p>\n

The Irish education department confirmed its psychological service is providing support to staff and the school community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
