The full body of the new fish is displayed, it has a reddish tint, with visible scales, an orange and white marking under its eye, fins, and an open mouth. &#10;&#10;The background is completely black. \" class=\"sc-a34861b-0 efFcac\"\/><span class=\"sc-a34861b-2 fxQYxK\">Huang et al.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><figcaption class=\"sc-8353772e-0 cvNhQw\">Warrior princess &#8211; of the deep?<!-- --><\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The newly discovered fish is a deepwater tilefish, belonging to the family Branchiostegidae.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">As their name suggests, deepwater tilefish are found at extreme depths, with some species being found as deep as 600m below the surface.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Researchers from the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, the Chinese Academy of Science, Zhejiang University and Ocean University of China, used genetic analysis to confirm it as a new species.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Inspired by its resemblance to San, they chose &#8220;sanae&#8221; for the specific name as a tribute.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Lead author of the study Haochen Huang said: &#8220;In Princess Mononoke, San is a young woman raised by wolves after being abandoned by her human parents.
