An off-duty police officer has been arrested over a crash which left a pedestrian with “life-threatening” injuries, police have said. <\/p>\n

The 42-year-old man remains in hospital after being hit by three cars<\/a> while trying to cross Yorkshire Street, Rochdale, at about 23:00 GMT on Friday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said. <\/p>\n

The force confirmed one its serving officers had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.<\/p>\n

Another man was also arrested, with both being bailed pending further inquiries, officers said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The force said its Professional Standards Directorate was reviewing the incident.<\/p>\n

“GMP\u2019s serious collision investigation unit are continuing to ask for witnesses and anyone who may have information regarding the incident,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Police earlier said they were also looking for a third driver who fled the scene<\/a>, with two of the cars suspected to have been involved being a blue Mercedes and a silver Mini Cooper.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
