Thursday’s clear night sky was illuminated by the brightest supermoon of the year.<\/p>\n

October’s full moon is known as the Hunter’s Moon.<\/p>\n

Photographers from Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire and Berkshire were on hand to capture the lunar event.<\/p>\n

A supermoon occurs when the Moon, which follows an elliptical (oval) orbit around Earth, is at its closest point to our planet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If this coincides with a full Moon, we see a supermoon, making the Moon appear larger.<\/p>\n

The supermoon will still be visible in cloudless skies over the weekend.<\/p>\n

There have already been two supermoons this year – August’s Blue Moon and September’s Harvest Moon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
