A mixture between being born and dying,&#8221; he told the AFP news agency.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cOur ancestors say that when they [the Europeans] took it away, our village was left without a north,&#8221; indigenous chief Sussu Arana Morubyxada Tupinamb\u00e1 said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Several Tupinamb\u00e1 sacred capes, which have survived hundreds of years, are still on display in museums across Europe.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">They are thought to date back to the 16th Century.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Tupinamb\u00e1s  leaders say this is not just about bringing artefacts back to their original homelands, but about recognising indigenous people, their lands and rights.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Brazil&#8217;s president has pledged to recognise indigenous land reserves, but the Tupinamb\u00e1s&#8217; territory has not yet been formally demarcated by the government.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The Tupinamb\u00e1s say the mineral-rich territory is being devastated by large agriculture and mining businesses.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/ce818y325d2o\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Museum of Denmark is handing over an iconic cloak belonging to an indigenous group in Brazil at a ceremony being attended by President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva.
