but the astronauts it was supposed to be carrying will stay behind on the International Space Station.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The empty craft, which has been switched to autonomous mode, is scheduled to undock from the orbiting lab at 23:04 BST (18:04 EDT).<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The capsule, which suffered technical problems after it launched with Nasa&#8217;s Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams on board, has been deemed too risky to take them home.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">They will instead return in a SpaceX Crew Dragon, but not until February 2025 &#8211; Both have previously completed two long-duration stays in space.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">She said the pair were undertaking the exercise programmes needed to stay healthy in the weightless environment.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">And she added that they now had all of the gear they needed for their unplanned eight-month stay.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cWhen we first sent them up, they were borrowing a lot of our generic clothing that we have on board, and we have now switched some of those things out,\u201d she said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">She explained that a resupply mission in July had delivered \u201cspecific crew preference items\u201d that the pair had requested.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cSo they actually have all of the standard expedition gear at this point that any other crew member would be able to select.
