Financial services company FinTrU is cutting jobs in Northern Ireland as part of a “proposed restructuring”.

In a letter seen by BBC News NI, the Financial Services Union (FSU) raised concerns around the fairness of the consultation process.

The company provides support services, including compliance and risk management, to major banks from offices in Belfast, Londonderry, Letterkenny in the Republic of Ireland and Porto in Portugal.

The FSU understands 95 employees in Belfast are at risk and a further 19 are at risk in Londonderry.

It said that with a total of 114 employees at risk, the consultation process should last for a minimum of 90 days and should be restarted.

The company has confirmed it has initiated a “proposed restructuring affecting a number of roles”.

It said it follows “a wider strategic review” and is part of an “organisational realignment to support long-term growth and ensure it remains aligned with evolving operational needs”.

FinTrU said it is committed to supporting employees affected by the proposals throughout the consultation process.

Craig Arden, industrial relations organiser with the Financial Services Union, said the “proposed redundancies will have a significant impact on workers and their families”.

“Our members are deeply concerned not only about the prospect of losing their jobs, but also about the fairness of the process being followed,” he said.

“FinTrU has been widely recognised as one of Northern Ireland’s economic success stories.

“We believe workers who have contributed to that success deserve to be treated fairly, consulted meaningfully and provided with appropriate support if redundancies cannot be avoided.”

The most recent accounts for 2025 show the FinTrU Group had 1,360 employees, down from 1,419 in 2024.
