Pat Cullen, the general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, has told the Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme that the door is still open for talks to avoid a strike.
Strikes are planned for some nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on 15 and 20 December.
“We aren’t for digging in, that’s not what nurses do,” Ms Cullen said.
