The B.B.C. Brains Trust answer questions sent in by radio listeners. (See other reels)

A cycling fan asks: why not abolish the motor car after the war? Joad agrees to this idea and explains why. Huxley gives his view then McCulloch makes a joke about using horses instead – they run on grass and it is very good for the garden.

Which character in fiction would the Brains Trust most like to see on the screen? Campbell would like to see Guy Mannering with Meg Merrylees (?). Jennie Lee would like to see the preacher from William Morris’s “The Dream of John Bull” (?), Elliot fancies Rob Roy and the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland. Professor Joad will like to see Satan out of Paradise Lost as he would like to know what he looks like. Huxley would like to see Don Quixote really well done in a film. The question master says he would like to see Donald Campbell – much hilarity around the table!

How can the Captain of a ship tell his position in a thick fog in mid ocean? Joad points to Campbell and he gives an explanation. “Dead Reckoning” is the answer apparently.

How can England and America best work together after the war? Joad makes a suggestion – a common government. Huxley appeals for a joint policy in connection with relief and reconstruction in Europe and China. Jennie agrees with Joad and thinks we need a “fellow feeling” between the nations. Elliot suggest a community feeling is essential.

Question master suggests that spectators form their own Brains Trusts. Spectators are invited to give their own questions to the manager of the cinema where they are watching the film and they will be forwarded.
